Icebound by Corinna Rogers

23123330The first book in an intense, thrilling and erotic, m/m urban fantasy series from an exciting new author in the genre!

It’s been ten years since Shane Conell sold his soul to the Ice King in order to save the life of the man he loves. Correction, loved.

After ten years, it’s growing difficult to remember love, and hate, and laughter – until a chance appears to get back the only thing his frozen heart still wants…

Drake Young is doing fine. Really. He’s got a good job, nice benefits, and the soulless husk of his old lover only comes by to torment him every so often. However, it only takes the appearance of a creature from the Etherworld wreaking havoc on the decidedly nonmagical city streets to drag him out of retirement, forcing him to team up with the one person he can’t bear even to look at!

Now, Drake and Shane must race against the clock to keep their city from being destroyed, even if it means working together. And no matter how difficult it is to catch the creature, it’s a hell of a lot more difficult to resist the urges that ten years haven’t managed to kill.

Review: Lynn, 4

I have read several Ethan Stone books in the past so I was really excited to read this one. I love the whole P.I., good guys versus the bad guys story.

The characters were very likable. Quinn is a private investigator hired by Jason. Quinn is quiet and very secretive. Jason is funny and flirty. Total opposites, but it works. They do have one thing in common, someone they are both trying to hide from, a common enemy named Nik Demos.

I truly enjoyed the camaraderie between Quinn and Jason. Quinn is the serious one who seems like he’s got the weight of the world on his shoulders. Jason on the other hand, was flirty and lighthearted even though his life was in danger.

I loved Quinn’s friend Parker. Who gets stuck to the bed with handcuffs? Too funny, he was great.

This book was listed under paranormal but it wasn’t until Quinn and Jason go to Quinn’s ranch that we see any paranormal element to the story. If there were any clues in the first half of the book, I missed them.

I feel as though the second half of the book was like everyone just hit the ground running with no time to take a breath. Don’t get me wrong, it was all very exciting and the story very entertaining. I just feel if we had a little more information on the whole paranormal business it would have made it less mind boggling.

All of that being said, I liked this story. I just feel some points were missing to give the readers the what, why and where of the paranormal aspect of the story.

First thing I have to admit, I didn’t know this story was a paranormal until Quinn began waving his hands around preparing a spell. I did read the blurb, but didn’t see it coming. Needless to say, I was intrigued.

Usually, I don’t care for a story in the first person, but having a glimpse into the two main characters thoughts made this story very compelling. ‘Past Tense’ takes you on a fast pace ride to a dangerous world full of suspense and strange, unusual monsters and demons; good vs. evil. The minute I started this supernatural romance, I was captivated by its exciting plot and charming characters. I loved Quinn’s family, and his friend Parker was a blast. Quinn was surrounded by people who loved and respected him so for him to be so unhappy and unkempt, it was a little hard to believe he had little interest in life and was so miserable. I never like to praise a bad guy, but ‘the dog’ character was so believable and frightening. I was terrified every minute Jason was alone with this man.

I do have to disagree with Lynn. I never felt that there was a second half to this book. It seemed to flow well, evenly increasing its intensity.
This story draws you in and refuses to let go. I would be interested in seeing Quinn and Jason again in their next adventure.

If you enjoy a good thrilling read this is the book for you.
