Spend a weekend with William Neale

Whether you knew him or not, whether you ever read any of his stories or not, I think everyone in our M/M community shared a shock with the sudden passing of William Neale. And for those who knew him best, and loved him longest, the monumental loss is sure to be felt for many years to come.

But for this week, let’s take a moment to celebrate his 55 years of life and all the love, joy, sadness, and experience he poured into every story he created. His romances are a testament to how easy love can be when you find the right person. His couples certainly had their obstacles – some small, some huge and devastating – but there was always an underlining strength to his characters, the innate desire to do the right thing no matter how hard or what the consequences might be, that was inspiring in so many ways. Integrity, honesty, commitment, sacrifice, intrigue, romance, and good old-fashioned hospitality are just a few things we associate with his novels because William Neale, the man as well as author, undoubtedly embodied all those things himself.

And with a cosmic silver lining, we as readers get one more chance to experience his magic. Hope (officially #4 in the HOME series, but I count it as #5) is being released this Friday, April 27th.

Home – bully/bullee find common ground as adults and a 13 year absence.
Son Of A Ditch – former military man settles in his hometown and reunites with his best friend, set approximately 4 years after Home .
A New Normal – newly graduated, friends finally act on their attraction, but are almost sidelined when one of them confuses the love and affection he feels for his friend’s father as being in love, set outside the current Home universe, can be read either before or after Son Of A Ditch as the events happen at about the same time but have no direct connection yet.
Always Faithful – friends-turned-lovers adjust as military service forced a long distance relationship and threatens their reunion, combines several characters from previous 3 books, set 8 years after Home and 4 years after A New Normal and Son Of A Ditch.
Hope – a man influences 2 romantic interests to open their hearts and take a chance on a fuller life, but can only keep one of them, combination of characters from previous 4 books, set immediately after Always Faithful.

And in honor of Hope’s release this Friday, MLRpress is offering up an e-book copy to one lucky winner. If you’re already up to date on this series then I’m sure you have been patiently waiting for Spencer’s story. And for those who have yet to begin, you are in for a treat!

To enter, please leave a comment below telling us which of the many couples/characters in the Home universe is your favorite. For those who haven’t read the series yet, please tell us which couples/characters are your favorites from the author of your choice. Contest is open until Thursday, April 26th, at 11:59 pm (PST). A random winner will be chosen and notified on Friday.

Congratulations bookophile81! I will be contacting you directly so you can claim your prize.

What a lovely dedication to a man who seemed to be loved by so many. I wasn’t fortunate enough to know him, but he was important to many people who are important to me. I have felt his loss through thier grief. I sincerely hope those of you who knew and loved him find joy in his word, and peace in your memories of him.

I have heard some very wonderful words of praise for William, too. I haven’t had the chance to read this series, but I did pick up the first two books this weekend and am really looking forward to getting started on them later this week. Maybe I’ll wait and actually spend the weekend with William as the title of this post suggests!

Since, I haven’t read this series yet, I will mention two of my favorite characters are Boone and Wade in SnoHo and Life in Fusion by Ethan Day. If you haven’t read those books, they are an absolute MUST READ!

I haven’t read any of his stories and you all
In the community have my condolences. My favorite couple (so far) are Jed and Matt from Promises by Marie Sexton 🙂

I would love to win a free copy of Bill’s last book in the series. I have to say Cade and Mark are my favorite characters, but all of them are wonderful.. Bill was a great man and will be missed by us all. I was so looking forward to GRL, so he and I could meet again. He became a wonderful friend to both my husband and myself over the months since meeting him in New Orleans. He was a special person and everytime I think of him, my heart breaks.

My favorite couple from the series is Colby and Kyle. Most of his stories are based around a friends/rivals-to-lovers theme, which I love, but Colby and Kyle had a little something extra for me. And the rest of the book was great, too.

I’m so very glad MLR is releasing William’s final work. He’ll live on through his stories, and in our memories and hearts.

Honestly, my TBR shelf is stuffed with Williams books, I just haven’t had time to read them yet. But in the mean time, I think one of my favorite couples has to be Soldier and Dillon from AKM Miles – Soldier – Scarcity Sanctuary 1. They are just so sweet to each other and those boy’s.

Lynn? Does your comment/entry count? I’m glad you like Spencer.

Kiernan – when Marty asked, we couldn’t say no.

I have only learned of William Neale through the outpouring of love and sympathy shown for his passing. I am not familar with his work, but considering the man he was, I can’t wait to discover his characters.

My current favorite pairing is Adrien and Jake from Josh Lanyon’s Adrien English series. I just devoured the set and am anxiously poking the internet for more.

Hey Kris, both mine and Lynn’s comments don’t count since we received ARC’s for review purposes … neither of our names will be in the pot when I draw a winner. 🙂 Does the final draft differ very much from the ARC? Or just stuff like commas and such?

    I really liked Spencer, too.

Can’t wait to read Hope. Bill was such a special man and his books are truly full of romance and hope. 🙂

Ugh. I forgot to say my faves were Cade and Mark but Colby and Kyle are a close second.

I waited to long to talk with Bill about his books. I just kept putting it off, and then I thought I will just talk to him at the next GRL. The Signed copy of Home is one of the best things that I received at the New Orleans GRL. Bill was so very generous.
I’m not sure which of Bill’s characters are my favorite. It depends on what book I am rereading at the time. Right now it’s Kyle and Colby because I’m rereading Son of a Ditch.

I was just playing with Lynn, Dolorianne. There was a tweak to the Italian and two words deleted so no real changes from the ARC.
